We hate to think we belong in the rat race, if given a choice, we'd much rather be amongst the lots who had broke free the reins of chasing social standards, and transcend beyond this perceived reality of our contained little universe called society and live free, doing things that we deemed as self-actualizing, even if it doesn't come with returns other than a feel-good feeling.
However, to put it quite bluntly, it is not that possible for most folks, whom really had mouths to feed and food that has to appear on the dining table, or wherever you choose to have your meal. And when placed at a crossroad in such a manner, now is the decision to make, to opt for what's right, versus what you like. Whichever is being selected, you either adopt a new way of life, believing less is more. Or the latter, where as you drift farther or farther from what you truly desired from the inner workings of your heart. Of which, you tend to die a little bit inside day by day, until every bits of your desired self is being replaced by the reformed you, that you can barely recognize that this is the same person who had the dilemma of living freely and having freedom of financial choices.
Of course, that being said, who's to define that there couldn't be a third choice? Most of the times, not all that we see is in black or white, grey areas exist, it could be in 50 different shades for all we know (pun intended. :) ) Whether our head rules, or the heart reign, it's all on a spectrum, hardly leaning entirely to one end and have no yearnings for the other. So, we have to obtain a balance of the two, which, if truth be told, is a more arduous journey. It's like serving two bosses who are at loggerheads at any given point of time. That, is an Art form.
